The COMOPTEVFOR, or Commander Operational Test and Evaluation Force, is a component of the United States Navy responsible for executing operational tests and evaluations on new and modified systems intended for fleet use. These assessments provide critical feedback to improve system performance and ensure that they are suitable for operational deployment. Established in 1987, COMOPTEVFOR operates primarily from the Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland. The force consists of over 1,300 military personnel, civilians, and contractors who work together to assess a wide range of naval platforms, weapons systems, and associated support equipment. Their role is essential in ensuring that the U.S. Navy maintains technological superiority and is prepared for current and future operational challenges.
